Majority of the site's members comes from the US, UK, Canada, and Australia and has been involved in a lot of scandals involving pedophilia. This isn’t surprising as the site does not have any screening process to prove the identities of people creating an account with them.

Registration can only take a few seconds, and you can skip most of the critical steps including verification, so the amount of fake users is enormous. Some accounts can use images that are downloaded from photo-sharing sites despite the site's photo verification process.

Members can customize the search filters to find more profiles of their 'type'. Members can post their status on the website's 'Shout' page. All members can send messages to one another as long as their chat settings aren't restricted. Members can join and create forum threads and post topics for group discussion. They can also send photos, stickers, and GIFs.

MyLOL has a photo moderation feature on the site and app according to their "Safety" page. However, a lot of members can be seen using "fake" images such as fictional characters, memes, or celebrities. Also, despite implementing a "Suspicious Keyword Detection" feature, some members can get away with inappropriate behavior by tweaking the banned words such as "noods" (nudes).

Having a photo is a requirement if you want to send a message using the desktop version. However, if you are using the app using the same account, you can send messages to anyone even if you don't have a photo.

Profile information only offers necessary information such as the age and location of the user. There is the "About Me" section that can be filled with an introductory essay, but most users do not bother to put much information here. There are some who put their social media usernames, but it is mostly left blank because it can be skipped during My LOL registration.

Everyone can access the photo albums. Each photo can be voted as "Hot," Cute," Wow," or "OMG." Whichever you choose is equivalent to one vote.

MyLOL has an available mobile application for iOS and Android users. It also has a mobile site for members who have no access to the applications. The app is easy to use and has the same features as the website. However, it has occasional bugs and glitches. The app tends to crash when used simultaneously with other applications.

I always wanted to try a dating site but almost all the apps I joined have members that are way older than me. My younger sister told me about MyLOL app so I gave it a try. As much as possible, I try to interact only with members who are the same age as me. I thought it would be totally weird to chat with a minor since this is supposed to be a teen dating site and isn't it illegal to flirt with minors? I turned 18 just recently, but I still felt weirded out by the idea. Anyway, I still receive messages from guys who are as young as 15, and there's just no telling whether they are honest with their age or not. I decided to delete my account after coming across an article about MyLOL being a "playground" for pedophiles.

Design and Usability

The design and overall feel of the site and app are very trendy and modern. This is why a lot of teenagers are hooked with its features. It also has a lot of functionalities that can be accessed even by a non-paying user. There is not much restriction when it comes to using features. A non-paying user and a premium user almost work the same, except that a paying user has additional special features such as unlocking of information.
