AntiChat, also known as AntiLand, has been providing an anonymous chat platform for users all over the world for over 18 years now. The premise of their platform is for anyone to reveal their true feelings and repressions, without the need and risk of disclosing their identities. The platform does not allow you to upload profile photos, and all public and private conversations are highly moderated for safety and precaution.
Advantages & Disadvantages of Anonymous Chat
AntiChat’s platform fosters anonymity among its users. This could help some people who are keeping things to themselves and are scared of the possible consequences if ever they speak their mind. Anonymous chat can be a great outlet for individuals who are holding back their feelings and emotions as they are afraid to be judged for who they are. With chatting anonymously, nobody knows your real identity, and you can be anyone you want to be.
Yet, anonymous chatting could also be dangerous, especially for people who do not practice online safety. There are predators and scammers that lurk in these kinds of chat platforms, waiting for their next victim. Thousands of reports have been filed about crimes committed online—immoral people who take advantage of some users’ vulnerability and naiveness.
With these facets of anonymous chat, how does AntiChat fare on online safety? Read the review and find out for yourself.
Registration takes 1-3 minutes
You can register through your mobile number
You need to fill out a short personal information form
Email verification required
Signing up for an account in AntiChat only takes at least a minute of your time. When you register, you will be asked to propose a username that must be different from your name. When your proposed username has not been taken yet, you can proceed and nominate a password.
After validating that you are human through answering a captcha, AntiChat will ask about your age, gender, and the gender of the person you are interested in having conversations with. You will also be asked about the languages that you speak so that you will be recommended group chats that fit your criteria.
After this, you will be asked for your email that will solely be used for verification and password recovery. You can provide your mobile number as well, but you have the choice to skip this. As soon as you verify your email and click the confirmation link sent to you, you can freely use AntiChat completely.
AntiChat is an anonymous chat platform where users can join group chatrooms, have private chat conversations with other anonymous members, and create group chats with people they want to talk to. As a member of AntiChat, you are free to use all its features without limitations. The main features of the chat platform are as follows:
Public Group Chat
You can freely explore public chats from the chat’s main menu. These public chats are usually organised by topic and location. As a new member, you will automatically belong to the ‘Newbies’ group chat, as well as the main city or state group chat based on your location.
You can also create your own group chat and share that particular chat’s group code or group link to friends you want to invite to your chatroom. AntiChat discourages the exchange of contact information among its users as it does not do background checks of its users, and holds no liability in the case of danger or fraud.
Whenever you message a particular user, that automatically categorises as a private conversation. You or any user can initiate a private conversation anytime by clicking a username you find from the ‘Active online users’ of a group chat.
You can also find members by searching their username on the main chat menu’s search function. However, for some users (those who have high ‘Karma’), there is a requirement of at least a number of ‘Karma’ points if you want to start a private chat with him or her. AntiChat tells you how much you need to earn in order to have a conversation with that member.
You can choose among the ‘avatars’ available, which one will serve as the “face” or your profile picture in the chat site. You can customise your ‘avatar’ by buying accessories such as hats or new eyes. You can also purchase limited ‘avatars’ using your ‘Karma’ points.
You can send virtual gifts to other users by going to their profile and clicking on the available virtual gifts you have on hand. Virtual gifts can be purchased using ‘Karma’ points or with cash.
Super Powers is a booster of user experience in AntiChat. It highlights your profile and puts your chat on top of the other users’ chat inboxes. It also surges the ‘Karma’ you earn 2x faster. This feature is an add-on, which you can purchase at a package duration of one week to twelve months.
‘Karma’ is the social status of AntiChat users. The higher your ‘Karma’ is, the higher the ‘Karma’ points are required from other users to be able to have a private chat with you. You can also use your ‘Karma’ points to purchase avatars, virtual gifts, and even a 1-month free trial of ’Super Powers’. You cannot buy ‘Karma’ points, instead, you can earn it by:
fulfilling the tasks given to you by the AntiChat admin through your private chat window with them
sending virtual gifts to other members
receiving virtual gifts from other members
contributing messages to interesting chat topics
generally being active on the chat site
The 'Karma' that you earn can also decrease when you get flagged down by AntiChat moderators for violating their guidelines and terms of usage. Getting reports and complaints from other AntiChat members can also lower your 'Karma' points.
The profiles of AntiChat members feature no personal information about the user except for the member’s username, avatar, age, gender, ‘Karma’, and a count of the virtual gifts that user has already received. There are two highlighted contacting buttons on every member’s profile which are ‘send a gift’ and ‘open private chat’. The ‘block’ and ‘report’ buttons are at the bottom of these contacting feature buttons.
On the top of the site, beside the ‘Account Settings’ is a shortcut to your profile. Whenever you click this shortcut, a pop-up of your profile will be displayed wherein you can edit your details directly. You can change your username, avatar, and gender. You can also customise the colour of your messages and buy ‘Super Powers’ from this pop-up profile display.
AntiChat’s web design is outdated and could use some revamping to cater better to this generation’s Internet users. When you get in the website, you will be taken to your chat dashboard. Whichever chatroom was the last one you accessed would automatically be the default chatroom you’d be taken into.
The left sidebar houses all the chatrooms you joined and private conversations you have. This sidebar has a search function and tabs that aim to organise your chats better. The first tab shows all your chat conversations. The second and third tabs are your group chats and private conversations. The last tab contains the chats you marked as favourite. On the right sidebar of every chat page contains the chat’s group link, as well as the usernames and ‘Karma’ points of all currently active users.
There is a ‘+’ button on the top left of the page which allows you to explore public chats, create group chats, and find users by searching their usernames. While on the top right are your ‘Account Settings’ and a shortcut button to your profile.
“With all chat platforms available today, AntiChat has got to be my favourite. Unlike most anonymous chat platforms, in AntiChat, you still get to have a profile that is securely anonymous. You also get to use all the site’s features for free, without the need to purchase add-ons to have a fulfilling experience. You can join chat rooms that are not just near your location, but also available global public chatrooms. Another thing that I like about AntiChat is how all the chatrooms and private conversations are moderated by AntiChat admins, so I feel safe and secure whenever I use the website. Though I haven’t made any real friends on the app yet, I still enjoy my time when I’m online in AntiChat.” - Addison, 19, Sydney
Overall, AntiChat provides a reliable platform for users to freely join chatrooms and meet new people. They get to keep their real identity to themselves and be free in whatever it is they want or need to say. AntiChat users remain anonymous all throughout the chat unless they have privately exchanged real contact information with another user. Even with the anonymity, active users who frequently use AntiChat has formed ties of friendship with other users through the public group chat rooms.
AntiChat is not for everyone, especially those who are looking for romance and dating. If you think it is not for you, check out our Casual Dating Sites category and maybe find something more suitable for you.
