Happn shows your matches based on the proximity and preferences you have set. Unlike other apps, Happn does not have a search function. Instead, it shows your matches based on the identified criteria– proximity and preferences of the user.
For security purposes, you can only send likes to other members. You may not message them unless they also send you a 'like'. When both users 'liked' each other, they become 'crushes'.
