Although the dating app introduces as to a fresh new concept of dating intelligently, the app's take on race and social status might ruffle other people's feathers. Some might see The League's treatment of race to be rather a few steps backward.
The League had been made to cater to people who wanted to have the best partners basing on education and profession. In what Amanda Bradford defends to be as "having high standards," the app sizzles with controversies by making disclosure of ethnicity a requirement.
Now, why does that matter? First, let's start with the entire concept of niche dating sites. Online dating companies have since then been releasing studies that reveal a quantifiable racial bias in the online dating community. Hence, the birth of niche dating sites that cater to race and specific interests. However, for apps like The League, studies still confirm that people of colour and minority groups have lower response rates in comparison to its white members.
In the case of The League where ethnicity must be disclosed when other apps don't require it, it certainly puts the elite dating service in the bad light.
How so, you ask? Similar to other well-known dating apps, The League adopted the "swipe right feature" where you can swipe right if the person matched to you passed your taste and swipe left when it is the other way around.

Although there is nothing wrong with that per se, what sparked the people into talking is the selection process wherein the app chooses who should get in and who should not.
