Our Review

Online dating in general, has changed the course of how people find their partners in life, even in the Muslim culture. The rise of fast-paced dating apps has inspired Haroon Mokhtarzada to create Minder, a dating app that primarily caters to the needs of the western Muslim community.

Minder is dedicated to helping Muslims in their quest to find love. It was first launched on February 14, 2015, with about 2,000 people requesting to register. Now it has over 350,000 active members and has created more than 100,000 matches in different countries.

It is generally targeted towards marriage-minded Muslims who are willing and able to settle down. Though it may not be traditional, it has still managed to grasp the idea of true matchmaking, with a modern touch.

Minder Signup
  • Sign up via Facebook or mobile phone
  • The registration process takes about 3 minutes to finish
  • You will be asked to fill out information about yourself
  • Creating an account in Minder is free
  • There is a mandatory selfie verification process upon signing up

Minder is one of those apps that has a high regard for security. The sign-up process itself will give you an idea of how much the site values profile authenticity. When you first launch the app, you will be presented with a choice to sign up through your Facebook account or your phone number. These two sign-up options serve as a way to validate your profile and confirm if you're a legit member candidate.

Upon signing up, you will be asked to assess yourself by your religiosity, education, flavour, etc.

Basically, you are already filling out some parts of your profile during the registration process. When you're done writing your basic info, you will be led to a page where you upload the photos for your profile. The last step you have to do before you can proceed and start finding matches is to send a selfie verification. You will then have to wait until you get verified.

Registering an account for Minder is pretty quick and easy. It will not take you more than five minutes to complete the process.

Minder Profile Quality

Minder Profile
  • Profiles can be easily updated
  • Limited photo slots
  • Has Muslim type options (Sunni, Shia, Just Muslim, other)
  • Profiles are pretty detailed
  • App uses your first name only

Minder's profile section is very concise and straight to the point. It contains some of your basic information, including your family origin, educational attainment, and occupation. The site also added a few important things like your marital status, "Religiosity", and "Flavour". To measure religiosity, you are to adjust a gage according to how religious you are. Its range is from not practising to very religious.

You might be wondering what "Flavour" pertains to. It is a term that Minder uses to describe what type of Muslim you are. In the options, you will see two of Islam's biggest branches, Sunni and Sia. It also has a "Just Muslim " option for the ones who are not that specific with their denomination. If you feel like you don't quite match well with the flavour options available, you can always choose "Others."

Your profile information can be changed or updated anytime. The information you provide in your profile will be made public. Anyone can have access to profiles for free.

    Minder Real Life Review

"I always wanted to try and find a date online but I always get no luck in meeting someone who gets me. Growing up in a Muslim family in a western country isn't easy. The mix of cultures and the religious point of views are somehow difficult to understand for other people. That's why I was so glad when I found out that there is a Tinder-like app for Muslims! I have been using Minder for a few weeks now and I am surprised to find a lot of singles that are actively using it. I have matched with quite a lot of beautiful and successful Muslim women near my area and so far I am pleased with how well I click with them. I'm looking forward to meeting them in person and I have high hopes that I will find my perfect match here." - Khurshid, 25

    Design and Usability

Minder comes in a red and white app colours that is neither too intense nor too boring. It is visible from the website alone that it is well-maintained in terms of design.

The functions are working as expected and they are always easy to understand. If you are confused about something, they have a handy FAQ page on the website to help you. However, these instances are rare because the buttons are simple but functional.

Usually, a premium upgrade will give you complete access to an app's features. But in Minder, a premium subscription will only give you access to some of the site features like unlimited daily swipes, premium placement for your profile, see a list of people who like you, undo swipes, etc.

Minder offers a specific premium feature that does not belong in the Premium upgrade, called "Telegram". Telegrams give you the ability to send a message to people you haven't matched with. It is represented by a red email icon beside the name of each person in the "I liked" or "I passed" section.

This feature is sold separately and can be bought per piece or packs. The number of telegrams you buy determines the number of times you can use the feature. Since it is not part of the premium plan, even standard members can purchase it without having to upgrade their accounts.

    Special Features

Minder is a pretty basic app, with features that are very similar to most of the existing dating apps in the market. But it does have a couple of cool features you never know you needed.

    Telegram

Have you ever skipped on someone accidentally while swiping? Yes? Well, don't worry, Minder's telegram feature will let you send a message to anyone you haven't matched. It is a paid feature you can use for a limited number of times depending on the pack you have purchased.

    Explore

Minder's explore option is pretty different from others. In this section, you will be able to see a list of people who liked you (paid feature), a list of people you passed on, and a list of people you liked.

Minder has made online dating easy for thousands of Muslims worldwide. It is an ideal place for Muslim singles to mingle and interact with each other. With its tight security measures, it is almost impossible to come across a bot or a fake account. The Minder team manually checks and verifies all of the profile requests they receive to ensure the safety of its members. Although the application is somewhat exclusive to the Muslim community, it still accepts people who are willing to convert. Despite being called as the "Muslim Tinder", it has managed to make a different image for itself. It does not attract people who are just into casual arrangements. In fact, the majority of its members, if not all, are looking for serious relationships that will hopefully lead to marriage. If you are not yet ready for a serious commitment, there are a lot of different Dating Apps you can try instead.
